CIVMAR INFORMATION
Civilian Mariners (CIVMARS) on board USNS SATURN are a vital part of the MSC Fleet. Their areas of expertise encompass a wide variety of occupations ranging primarily from the engineering, deck and supply departments.

MILDET INFORMATION
The Officer community consists of four Supply Officers, who manage the ship's cargo material that is transferred to vessels. Enlisted ratings on board include Operations Specialists, Information Systems Technicians, Electronic Technicians, Personnelmen and Storekeepers. Current tour length for enlisted is 12 months. Officers serve a two-year tour. The MILDET OIC is an 0-5 or 0-6 Supply Corps Officer.

LAUNDRY

" Everyone is responsible for their own laundry, except ship provided linens for officers, which will be changed by stewards. Laundry rooms are located on the 01 deck fwd, 02 deck fwd, and 2nd deck H block. You may use your own personal laundry detergent as long as it DOES NOT CONTAIN BLEACH, or you can use the Ecolab detergent in the laundry room.

CASH

" We are not equipped with ATMs, but the Purser cashes personal checks during certain hours. Purser's office is located
on the 0-1 level.

" Crew's mess for E-6 & below, Main deck aft
" Chief's mess for E-7 & above, Main deck aft
" Officer's Mess, 01 Deck aft

MESS HOURS

Breakfast: 0730-0830
Lunch: 1130-1230
Dinner: 1700-1800
(In port 1630-1730)

" Officers, Contractor and Civilian non-mariners are responsible for signing the meal sheet located in the Officer's Mess and settling their bill with the Purser upon detachment Officers are charged for all meals underway and only those meals eaten when in port

MOVIES

" Shown nightly while underway

" M-F 1800-Midnight.

" Sat & Sun, Noon until midnight.

" Shown on channels 8, 10, and 11. Depending on reception, channel 7 airs AFRTS radio news.

GYM

" Located in hold three, 2nd deck

" A cardio room with three treadmills, two Stairmasters, three bikes, and two elliptical machines. Free weights are available as well.

SAFETY

" As soon as you check onboard, it is your responsibility to locate your life vest and survival suit (found in stateroom). The Chief Mate will assign your life raft/abandon ship and fire/emergency station.

Ship riders are required to participate in shipboard drills.


 

COMMAND SMOKING POLICY

" Smoking is prohibited within the skin of the ship. Smoking is permitted on weather decks only and clear of fuel tank vents and other fire hazards.

" Location: Main deck, port side fwd
* We are not equipped with a medical doctor, but do sail with a Medical Services Officer (MSO), capable of handling most minor illnesses and typical job-related injuries
