MPSRON One Staff Organization

An MPS squadron is commanded by a U.S. Navy captain, called a Commodore, who is responsible for exercising control over and providing logistics support to the ships and the staff to ensure that the squadron is fully capable of responding to worldwide contingencies. The Commodore reports to the regional Military Sealift Command area commander, who is responsible for administrative direction and support, and through him to the Sixth Fleet Commander for operational tasking.

Staff Organization

Commander, MPSRON One Responsibilities:

  1. Readiness to conduct off-load operations, including coordinating repair and maintenance of squadron ships' cargo handling systems and coordinating with respective masters as necessary.
  2. Tactical control of squadron assets.
  3. Movement to the arrival and assembly area and coordination of the squadron's ships' off-load positions with the naval support element commander.
  4. Billeting and messing of the off-load preparation party, off-load control unit personnel, naval embarked advisory teams and/or convoy commanders and their staffs.
  5. Port service arrangements for squadron ships and the naval support element.
  6. Squadron communications equipment support for internal and external MPSRON One and embarked unit needs.
  7. Monitoring the progress of off-load preparations.
  8. Authorizing funds for mission-related activities described in the certificate of appointment.
  9. Implementation of physical security requirements that may contractually be incorporated.
  10. Implementation of required training.
  11. Review and approval of all launch hire schedules consistent with squadron requirements.
  12. The temporary assignment of additional government personnel aboard the vessels.
