Commander, U.S. Transportation Command

The United States Transportation Command is the single manager of America's defense transportation system and the distribution process owner for the Department of Defense. The command's mission is to provide air, land and sea transportation for DOD in both time of peace and time of war.

During an average week, USTRANSCOM manages more than 1,900 air mobility missions, 25 sealift missions and 10,000 ground shipments. To accomplish this, USTRANSCOM relies upon its Transportation Component Commands: the Navy's Military Sealift Command, the Air Force's Air Mobility Command and the Army's Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command. The component commands provide mobility forces and assets that offer a seamless transition from peace to war.

In its role as distribution process owner for DOD, USTRANSCOM provides the synchronized transportation, distribution and sustainment that makes it possible to project national power where needed with the greatest speed and agility, the highest efficiency and the most reliable level of trust and accuracy. Our military strategy demands simultaneous deployment of units, replacement personnel and supplies across multiple theaters, day in and day out.

USTRANSCOM is the designated keeper of the transportation pipeline, controlling this simultaneous movement of forces and supplies to and from the theater. We are the entity that brings together all players in the end-to-end deployment and distribution processes to create an integrated and interoperable system.
