Military Sealift Command's Operations/Plans Directorate develops and implements policies, procedures and plans to ensure the operational readiness of MSC ships and programs to support Navy and Joint operations; runs the Global Command Information Center, which is the single point of contact to the U.S. Transportation Command and U.S. Navy operations centers; and develops Anti-terrorism and Force Protection policies and procedures for MSC ships, including a security assurance program addressing requirements for Chemical Biological and Radiation Defense, the Critical Infrastructure Program and Homeland Defense.
Military Sealift Command's Plans section collaborates with the Department of Defense's Unified Combatant Commands, - primarily the U.S. Transportation Command - the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and other DOD agencies to develop and wargame strategic sealift plans that would ensure the ocean delivery of DOD and other U.S. government cargo for future operations. This directorate also plays a key role in executing strategic sealift plans by providing expertise in support of real-world missions ranging from humanitarian assistance and disaster response to combat operations.
