MASTER’S BIO

Robert H. Jaeger, Master Mariner, Military Sealift Command

 

Born in Orange County, California

 

Current assignment - Master, USNS RICHARD E. BYRD (T-AKE 4)

 

Fascinated with the sea at an early age as a Sea Scout, Captain Jaeger began his seagoing career with an enlistment in the US Navy in 1976.  He served as a quartermaster aboard USS BARRY (DD-933) and USS OLDENDORF (DD-972) completing Mediterranean, North Atlantic, Middle East and  WESTPAC deployments.  Captain Jaeger was honorably discharged as a petty officer second class in 1980. 

 

Captain Jaeger was commissioned as a Naval Reserve Officer in 1984 and retired at the rank of Lieutenant Commander, USNR-R after 20 years of reserve service.

 

Captain Jaeger began employment with Military Sealift Command in 1981 and has served continuously for 27 years. 

 

Captain Jaeger has served aboard a wide variety of vessels:  T-AKR, T-AK, T-AO, T-ARC, T-AGOS, T-AGS, T-AFS, T-ATF, T-AE and T-AKE.  Captain Jaeger’s primary experience has been aboard ammunition ship’s (T-AE), serving numerous tours aboard USNS KILAUEA, USNS KISKA and USNS FLINT since 1987.
